Ka'anapali zipline in the West Maui Mountains

An off-road drive from Ka'anapali up the slopes of the West Maui Mountains, then eight ziplines across eroded ravines with Lanai and Molokai on the horizon. Pick it for the view from above without driving anything: guests from 10 can go, and the bumpy ride up is part of the fun.

Ka'anapali Small-Group Zipline Adventure

About this experience

Skyline runs this course on the slopes of Mauna Kahalawai, the West Maui Mountains, a few minutes from the Ka'anapali resorts. You check in 30 minutes early at 111 Ulupono Street, get weighed and harnessed, then ride off-road up the mountain to the first platform. One guest warns that "the ride up the mountain can be rough", so take a motion-sickness pill if you need one.

Skyline's own page lists 8 lines, as high as 150 feet above the ground. The listing describes the view from the top as running from Kahoolawe on your left to the summit of Molokai on your right, and the lines criss-cross eroded ravines on the way down toward the coast. Between lines the guides talk geology, native plants and island history. Many reviews praise the guides and their humor before the zips.

The caveats. There is a half-mile hike over uneven ground between platforms, little shade (one guest wrote that the course "does need more shade"), and red dust that ends up on your shoes. Everyone must weigh 80 to 260 lb, checked on a scale at check-in, and the ticket is non-refundable if you don't meet the requirements on the day. No scuba diving in the 24 hours before.
